I am working with StandingWomen, a grassroots organization that is calling upon the women of the world to stand together and save the world. Our first Standing observance was Mother's Day 2007. It was a fantastic day. The weather even cooperated to show us what the world we dream of might be like! Over 200 women, children, and men participated in the 5 local parks we had identified for the public standing places. We know more people were standing on the Purple People Bridge, and at least 2 churches, and many individual local locations.
The next standing opportunity is in the planning stages. We are standing to bring the energy of women and the ferocity of mothers into the public arena where we will make the changes necessary to bring about the world of which we dream.
"We will be standing for the world's children and grandchildren, and for the seven generations beyond them. We dream of a world where all our children have safe drinking water, clean air to breathe, and enough food to eat. A world where they have access to a basic education to develop their minds and healthcare to nurture their growing bodies.A world where they have a warm, safe and loving place to call home. A world where they don't live in fear of violence- in their home, in their neighborhood, in their school or in their world. This is the world of which we dream. This is the cause for which we stand."
